Unboxing the Famous PL-200 II

BIC Acoustech PL-200 II is everyone’s favorite for its incredible performance, but we were more excited about unboxing it. We heard a lot more about the woofer and how it comes in safe, well-designed packaging.

So, we all tried to explore it when it arrived at our testing lab. Thankfully, opening the enormous and heavy box was not a hassle, but it had more packaging material than we thought. After removing the plastic and exposing the woofer on the floor, we headed back to the accessories in the box.

To our surprise, there was only a power cord and user manual with step-by-step instructions to install and make the device run with the home theater system.

Size and Design

Subwoofers come in all sizes and shapes, but the cabinet structure has become the most common one. It safely contains the woofer and helps it perform to its full potential while complementing the sound performance. But everything comes down to the construction material.

This large, heavy, solid subwoofer has an MDF construction, like all the high-end subwoofers, and features a grill at the front. It measures 17.25 x 14.87 x 19.5 inches and weighs 45 pounds, so it certainly needs enough room on the floor to settle down.

However, unlike compact options like Polk Audio PSW10 and Klipsch Reference R-10SW, its performance is worth the price and weight.

The black is clean with a laminated texture, and all the controls and input options are available to back there.

Inputs and Controls

BIC Acoustech PL-200 II is made to use in homes. Hence the input collection is easy to reach and flexible enough to pair with old channels/applications.

You will get speaker-level input and output ports that let you make a stable connection with two-channel receivers. The RCA cable provides seamless pairing and a simple setup to get started with the woofer.

After plug-in in the woofer at the right spot, we began testing the sub with some bass-heavy content. After adjusting the volume on different music genres, we didn’t find the need to utilize the phase switch and experience excellent sound and bass performance.

It was so quick to start, connect, and manage the control levels with diverse music.

Built-in Driver and Amp

The huge cabinet shape box has a built-in speaker responsible for reproducing the lowest frequencies to add bass depth while listening to music. The woofer isolates the bass frequencies and makes them shine when you play bass-heavy content while letting other speakers focus on the upper and mid frequencies to create a wide soundstage.

BIC Acoustech PL-200 II contains a powerful 12-inches woofer in a poly-injected material. The material keeps it lightweight and bears heavy punishment while not breaking in under the MDF cabinet.

The shiny metallic material of the driver is aesthetically pleasing, so you may want to remove the detachable grill at the front and expose it. Besides, the front-facing 9 x 2-inches two ports reduce the muddy noise and turbulence when it showcases its performance.

Power Output and Frequency

We usually judge the subwoofer bass quality on its power output and frequency response range. The power output determines how much power pressure it can handle and reproduce while not facing damage.

Surprisingly, BIC Acoustech PL-200 II has a peak power output of 1000W, which is incredibly high compared to the other subwoofer in this budget range. When testing, we never heard any compressions, distortions, muddy noise, or any sort of distraction at max volume levels.

The bass notes were also precise and accurate, and it was thumping where needed. We could feel the power in our veins at certain frequency ranges. You will also get 250W of RMS power output, which should be enough to fulfil the room with high-quality sound projection.

Speaking of frequency, the subwoofer comes with a 21Hz to 200Hz range and stands out in delivering the most detailed and accurate low notes compared to the competition.

Performance

We tested the subwoofer with bass-sensitive music of different genres and could easily feel the heavy bass in our chest. Rock and hip-hop sound much better at loud volumes because there are hardly any distortions.

Moreover, the subwoofer performed pretty well with gaming. The sound of explosions, cars, and running made us feel like we were on the scene. Unlike other budget subwoofers, BIC Acoustech PL-200 II has won our hearts with outstanding bass quality.

Bottom Line

BIC Acoustech PL-200 II could be a valued addition to your home theater application because it can rock your world with a high power output of 1000W.

The 12-inch poly-injected woofer ensures the maximum sound impact, and the 21Hz frequency response delivers surprisingly deep and banging bass notes.

You wouldn’t find a high-quality, maximum-power, perfectly aligned subwoofer at this price.
