Main Features

  • Bass comes to you from every direction
  • 400-watt dynamic power
  • Frequency response 29Hz-120Hz
  • Clean sound with no distortions
  • Multiple controls

Unboxing the R-12SW Subwoofer

Thankfully, the Klipsch R-12SW arrived well-packed and in great condition in the brand’s box. When we received the package, we eagerly unpacked it to get a look at what we were getting, and we were amazed to see the woofer sitting patiently inside the packaging material.

The front of the box has a glossy photo of the woofer, with specs listed below. The back has all the information about the product and our order. Once we got the subwoofer out of the box, we saw that it was quite a big guy! Besides, the woofer comes with a long power cord and a user manual to get it started.

It is a 12-inch huge subwoofer with a unique black design that weighs approximately 33 pounds. Like other subwoofers, the Klipsch R-12SW 12″ 400W subwoofer looks like a cabinet with four feet. The copper spun outer may not stand out in the room, but it won’t disappoint you.

The height of this amazing subwoofer is 16″, so you should know it will cover significant wall space. Hence, it is better not to place it in front of the TV or other speakers in your stereo setup.

Installation and Placement

You will be amazed to know that this amazing subwoofer has a Front-firing driver and digital amplifier, which makes it the best performer subwoofer. It throws bass notes from the front and can fill up the space in no time, so finding the sweet spot isn’t necessary.

However, it is huge and heavy, and you should only get it for home if you have a bigger space to accommodate and handle its power outage.

In addition, the installation process is quick and easy. Fix it to the spot, connect the power cable, pair it to the system, and it’s ready to function. There is also an instructional manual in the box for real-time guidance.

Power Output

The subwoofer is merely judged by its power output because it decides its potential to perform. Even though it is designed to produce low-end frequency notes, the power can determine the extent of punishment it can ensure.

The Klipsch R-12SW 12-inch subwoofer has 400 watts of dynamic power and 200 watts of RMS power that fuel the driver to produce rich, hard-hitting, deep, and intense bass.

One feature that inspired me is that it can produce crystal clear sound at lower frequencies. It is worth mentioning that a standard two-channel or surround sound configuration cannot reproduce sounds at a lower frequency, hinting at adding this quality subwoofer to the chain.

Frequency Response Range

If you are into subwoofers and realize their importance in audio setups, you would know how much focus the frequency response range requires.

Unlike the 8-inch compact subwoofer, a 12-inch or higher can go down to 28 or 29 Hz to deliver precise bass notes. Similarly, this 12-inch Klipsch subwoofer has a frequency range of 29 Hz–120 Hz, making it stand out and perform at its full potential without distortions.

The Klipsch R-12SW subwoofer comes with a limited input set that can be used to connect it to your audio system. Looking at the back of R 12SW reveals a set of RCA audio inputs, with the left input also serving as a low-frequency input.

The lack of wireless connection support raises questions at this hour of modern setups, but it comes with a WA-2 port that allows you to connect it to a wireless kit (you need to purchase it separately).

Built-in Amplifier

Unlike subwoofers that require separate subwoofers to receive power to perform, the Klipsch R-12SW comes with a built-in digital amplifier that passes enough power to the woofer for endless performance.

Sound Performance and Working

No doubt, the Klipsch R-12SW 12″ 400W subwoofer is one of those subwoofers that gives its listeners deep, rich bass without any flaw in accuracy.

Its performance is like a beast that gives a powerful tone and clear vocals. The built-in amplifier helps achieve high-definition sound with less distortion. Even at extreme listening levels, it won’t compromise on the bass quality.

The diaphragm is made of a metal called copper, which helps in giving clarity to the audio. With high frequencies, copper is unfortunately not as flexible as it should be.

Control Levels – Low Phase and Crossover

The subwoofer also has a phase switch that you can set to 180 degrees and receive the nominal signals from the other speakers connected to the system. You will also find a knob of a low-pass filter to boost the cut-off frequency in the range of 40 Hz to 120 Hz.

• Deep and rich sound
• Sharp subwoofer
• Affordable price
• Low-pass filter
• RCA inputs
• No wireless connection

Bottom Line

This subwoofer offers a crisp, rich sound unrivalled by many other receivers in the same price range. Also, when you use the LFE input to connect the sub, you get clean, deep, and intense bass at high volume levels.

This subwoofer is a seamless system to bring vibrant colors to your home theater system. I think there is no reason not to try it, so don’t be cautious; close your eyes to the little flaws, and get yourself an R12SW.
