Unboxing the Well-Packed Subwoofer

When the big box arrived at our doorstep, we couldn’t help but open it up and take a look. We were amazed to see this beast at our testing lab within almost two weeks of placing an order, so we couldn’t wait to hook it up with the system and start testing.

Our excitement grew when we started unboxing it. The brown box was huge and relatively heavy, but we were okay with handling it and pushing it outside the box. The powered subwoofer was covered with a plastic bag when we removed the box. The grill was already attached, and the construction seemed solid and good at first glance.

After admiring the woofer, we turned to the box to see what else was there. We found a user manual, a power cord, a mini remote to operate the bass, a connector with positive/negative/ground terminals, some Velcro strips, a 12 ft audio cable, and RCA cables.

Thankfully, it comes prepared, so we have to hook it and start testing.

Size and Design

The Rockford Fosgate P300-12 is a well-built subwoofer with a heat-activated vinyl material that keeps it reliable even when subjected to high power output and heat.

Besides, it’s pretty solid and has nothing much to offer in terms of aesthetics, and I realized it that right after unboxing. It weighs around 13.4 kg, so it can be heavy to handle and set up. For the measurements, it is about 15 x 19.8 x 11 (HWD), so you should know it is going to consume space.

Easy Setup

There is nothing hard-and-fast rule when installing and setting up the subwoofer. Just plug in the power cord, make it sit in the right position, connect the inputs, and turn it off.

If you choose to install it in the vehicle, there are no sloppy method requirements to follow. Also, all the inputs are available on one side, which makes the installation, control, and everything related to managing the device pretty convenient.

Enclosure

The subwoofer uses a sealed enclosure in a 5/8-inches MDF, the most popular and preferable material for subwoofers. Also, it cuts the costs big time and balances the sound quality while pushing it to go deep.

Inputs

When you have everything settled in one place, finding the right input to pair with the respective stereo, speaker, or amplifier saves time.

This is the case with Rockford Fosgate P300-12, which has a pair of Audio inputs at the backside, easily reachable for quick hook-up. The power connector helps with instant connections and disconnection, positive and negative, saving big time.

Controls

Besides the inputs and power button, the subwoofer features multiple controls that adjust the bass and sound quality while aligning with the other speakers.

Phase control to 180 degree, low-pass crossover, and bass boost features are valuable that allows audiophiles to enjoy every bit of the woofer.

Bass Quality

The sound waves are large and wide, and the punch bass variable range from 0 -+12dB @ 45Hz is ready to give you a booming and tight bass. The sound quality is also decent and adjustable, and the gain control further helps you with the amplification for immersive listening.

Instruction Manual

When unpacking the subwoofer, we also found this very brief manual with all the instructions from installation to usage, which helps beginners and even experts to function properly.

Warranty

Rockford keeps its name up high by making the subwoofer of the best possible quality for its price and then offering a 1-year warranty to give you the confidence to use it at its full potential.

Benefits
• Full-range woofer
• Built-in phase switch
• Auto on/off
• Adjustable low-pass crossover
• Multiple inputs
• 1-year warranty
Drawbacks
• Bulky profile

• Setup could be hard for beginners

Bottom Line

Rockford Fosgate is a subwoofer that you can use for vehicles and home stereos and enjoy the tight bass with 300W RMS output. It has a wide frequency response range, and the sound quality is fairly adjustable with multiple controls.

Hence, it has the potential to be a decent woofer upgrade to your sound systems and can deliver the real bass you need.
